Hi, I’m Liz and I warmly welcome you to Corelation Pilates, a private therapeutic Pilates studio offering personal Pilates training. Inspired by a clear understanding of your personal goals, your motivations, and any obstacles you face, Pilates can help you improve your strength, balance, flexibility, and vitality. It feels amazing and the results will speak for themselves. You’re gonna love it. Let’s get started!
Muscular imbalances are often based on what we do at work and at play. Or, they might present after injury or strain. The trouble is that when certain muscles become overly dominant, less efficient movement patters are created. Smaller muscles chime in to do the work of larger muscles, they are overused, become fatigued, and eventually give out. Under-utilized muscles remain weak and their function deteriorates, leaving them prone to further injury.
Pilates has its roots in rehabilitation. It was founded during World War I where it was used to rehabilitate injured soldiers. It was created for the purpose of rehabilitation and is used to correct imbalances with targeted training. It does this by isolating specific muscles, retraining their firing pattern (which ones chime in first), working muscles in a balanced way, and working one or both sides of the body together or independently to achieve symmetry. Pilates exercises can be adapted to provide more or less challenge and props can be added for support where needed.
The ability to target and strengthen the core muscles of the body and the number and versatility of exercises that can be tailored to your individual level of performance is what makes Pilates an ideal complement to a rehabilitation program. Pilates is movement therapy.
